What does the term “oven” actually mean?

OVEN: An enclosed chamber with a metal interior having another section that produces heat. This is what Lydon means by “oven”.

FURNACE: An enclosed chamber where heat is produced, such as for an oven, or to heat buildings, to destroy refuse, to smelt or refine ores; often having an interior lining of refractory material.

KILN: A refractory-lined furnace for burning, high-temperature drying, or firing such things as porcelain or brick.

PIZZA OVEN: A gravity convection oven, most often direct gas fired, with one or more flat metal hearths to bake pizza. This is considered a “commercial” oven, not scientific or industrial.

Quick Quiz: Theorize why Lydon Oven Company does not build pizza ovens. Email your papers by tomorrow night.
